February 17th II – Utah, Day 3
Posted on February 26, 2015
After a not-so-warm welcome on Slickrock, we packed up the TS (trusty steed) and headed down off the canyon rim into town to find the trailhead for Captain Ahab. Upon finding it, we quickly realized this was the type of riding we were looking for when we decided we wanted to go mountain biking in Utah. Slow, technical climbs followed by endless downhill.
Me rocking the fannypack. Ladies please, one at a time. I got a coupon code from MindShift in exchange for a review of their photography backpack, so that will be coming soon.
David at the top of the lookout point on Captain Ahab.
At the HyMasa Back trailhead, just prior to the start of Captain Ahab.
The backside of Whale Rock, which provides the trail’s namesake.
Some sections of the trail weren’t rideable in the upward direction, but the hiking was made worthwhile by the incredible and endless downhill.
All of the Captain Ahab trail goodies will be in the video I’m working on (probably after March), but suffice to say that this was mountain biking nirvana, and pretty much saved the mood from the Slickrock sufferfest that was the first day of riding. Captain Ahab is, in my opinion, the best trail I’ve ever ridden.
